Parents and Students (mostly parents),
I wanted you to know about something that we told the students last week in class.
6th period Concert Band is made up of two different kinds of players. There are about half that will do whatever we ask them, do their work, and come to practices. They submit their recordings that are due and take care of their band business.
However, there is another kind of player that is struggling. They don't practice regularly , the don't come to before or after school practices. They are behind in their musical development. Those students are holding the rest of the players back VERY badly. These players are also talking a lot in class, forgetting their supplies, and distracting the students that want to play good music and want to be perform well.
So, here is our solution. For the next two weeks, we will be monitoring students VERY carefully. If they are doing what they are supposed to do (practicing, coming to sectionals, remembering to bring their stuff every day, doing their pass offs) the will stay in the band with Mr. Nguyen and go to contest and finish the year as planned. However, if the student will not do what they are asked to do, they will be going to the orchestra room with me everyday to work on a music that will help them get caught up musically. They will not be participating in the UIL process or any of our other contests for the rest of the year. That includes the Six Flags trip. They WILL participate in the Spring Concert.
Please understand, we have been very patient with the students that are not doing what they are supposed to do, but it has come to the point where they are SEVERELY holding back the students who are doing what is requested of them
