Parents and Students,
As the students already know Mr Nguyen, Mr. Walker, Mr. Houston, and I will be gone to the Texas Music Educator's Association (TMEA) state convention in San Antonio on Thursday and Friday. We will be attending classes to help us be better teachers.
If you have private lessons scheduled, they most likely WILL happen so you need to be prepared to have that lesson.
The students have been told in all classes how we want them to behave for the substitute. The phrase that we are using is "behaving like young ladies and young gentlemen." We believe that not only are we training young musicians, but we are helping you, the parents, raise a good citizen. While we expect no problems at all, you will find that we will always tell the students ahead of time what we expect. So, here is what we expect from the students: We expect them to act like young ladies and young gentlemen. :-) Polite to the substitute, polite to each other, respectful of the room, and helpful when given the opportunity.
Parents, if you will take just a few minutes and review this with your student, that would be very helpful.
If a student makes the choice to not act appropriately, the sub will give the student a music theory packet which is basically worksheets and they will remove them from the group. If the student doesn't act appropriately, the sub has been instructed to get me their name. If I am given a name of a student who isn't behaving the way that we expect them too, that student will be removed from all travel opportunities for the rest of the year. This includes any further contest trips and Spring Festivals that we may have scheduled. This may also jeopardize their ability to be in band for next year. We tell the students, "if we can't trust you in front of a sub, there is no way we can trust you on a trip."
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to e-mail me at email@example.com
Thank you in advance. We are NOT expecting any problems at all, but I wanted all of you to be aware of what is happening over the next two days.
