Mike Major currently serves as the Director of Band at McDonald Middle School in Mesquite, Texas. When Mr. Major arrived at McDonald 12 years ago, the program has shrunk to 50 students enrolled in the entire program. Now, the program is thriving with over 250 students in one 7th grade beginner band and two 8th grade bands. Mr. Major's bands have consistently earned Superior and Excellent ratings at UIL Evaluation and invitational contests. He previously worked at North Mesquite High School in Mesquite, Texas, and Gentry Public Schools in Gentry, Arkansas.
Mr. Major is a 1994 graduate of the University of Arkansas and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. He earned his Master's of Education from Texas A & M at Commerce in 2008.
Mr. Major is a Google certified educator who uses all of the Google tools in his classes. This helps the students "flip" the classroom so that the students can be more efficient at school and at home
Mr. Major resides in Garland, Texas, with his wife of over 25 years, Nikki. Nikki is a testing coordinator at Lawrence Elementary in Mesquite ISD. They have two children: Grace, a Senior dancer whose goal is to be a choreographer, and Max, a trombone player who is in the Big Blue Band at North Mesquite High School
