Mike Major currently serves as the Director of Band at McDonald Middle School in Mesquite, Texas. When Mr. Major arrived at McDonald 11 years ago, the program has shrunk to 50 students enrolled in the entire program. Now, the program is thriving with over 250 students in one 7th grade beginner band and two 8th grade bands. Mr. Major's bands have consistently earned Superior and Excellent ratings at UIL contest and invitational contests under his direction. He previously worked at North Mesquite High School in Mesquite, Texas, and Gentry Public Schools in Gentry, Arkansas.
Mr. Major is a 1994 graduate of the University of Arkansas and holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. He earned his Master's of Education from Texas A & M at Commerce in 2008.
Mr. Major works with Charms Office Assistant as a Product Consultant. He attends conferences around the nation to teach people how to use. He teaches every summer at the Charms User Conference specializing in director use of the Charms system. He has taught Charms at the Texas Music Educator's State Convention and The Midwest Band & Orchestra Clinic and many others.
Mr. Major resides in Garland, Texas, with his wife of over 20 years, Nikki. Nikki is a testing coordinator at Lawrence Elementary in Mesquite ISD. They have two children: Grace, a singer and dancer who's goal is to be on Broadway someday, and Max, a golfer and member of the North Texas Jr. PGA and is looking forward to being on the real PGA tour.
